Second Wind: a public reading series pairing students in University of Montana's Creative Writing MFA program with UM faculty, alumni, and community writers.

Readings are at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evenings at Kulture Kava, 420 N Higgins Ave in Missoula. (In the building behind Jimmy John’s) Admission is free!

Join us this Sunday, October 21st, for an evening with UM's own David Queen and his wildly imaginative fiction kicking off the show, with local celeb poet and beloved bartender Philip Schaefer to follow.

If you don't know David or Philip, here's who you'll be wowed by:

David Queen grew up in Ohio and spent most of the past decade in New York City, where he worked as everything from a dishwasher on a reality cooking show, to a movie theater usher, to an advertising copywriter. His work has appeared in VICEPasteHobartNew SouthThe RumpusAtlas ObscuraMcSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and elsewhere. He now lives in Missoula with his wife Julia and their dog Merlin. A few times a year he tweets some nonsense from his Twitter account at @byron_queen.

(Fun fact: DQ used to play in a Weezer cover band. Maybe he'll take requests?)

He won the 2016 Meridian Editor’s Prize in poetry and has been featured on Poetry Daily, Verse Daily, and in the Poetry Society of America. Individual work is out or due out in Kenyon Review, Prairie Schooner, Thrush Poetry Journal, Guernica, The Cincinnati Review, Salt Hill, Bat City Review, The Adroit Journal, Baltimore Review, Redivider, and Passages North among others.
