We've been hacked!

Dear Internet, The Cutbank website has been hacked! You may have noticed that our facebook posts have been linking the literary world to Viagra ads and other oddities. Our website has caught a virus and has to go to the doctor. We'll be going through our server over the next couple of days and try to root out the bug. Hopefully none of the content on the site will be unavailable, but the design of the site might be in flux. Please be patient! If you have any questions or concerns, e-mail

SECOND WIND: Lauren de Paepe and William Kittredge, Sept. 9, 2012

We here at Cutbank are happy to welcome in another season of Second Wind readings! For those of you that aren't familiar with this series, Second Wind brings together a second year MFA candidate at the University of Montana with an established writer. We love supporting our own and also relish the opportunity to make these fantastic readings available to a wider audience. Our first reading of the fall is a great one: some poems by Lauren de Paepe and a story excerpt by the inimitable William Kittredge.

News: Winners for 2012 Chapbook Contest

2012 First-Ever CutBank Chapbook Contest

Thanks to all those who submitted to CutBank's inaugural Chapbook Contest. We received an incredible number of submissions and faced a formidable challenge selecting the finalists and winner. We were blown away by the overall quality of this year's contest submissions and anticipate running the contest again next year. It gives us great pleasure to announce that Sean Bernard's short novella, Nuclear, was the winner of this year's contest. Nuclear privies the reader into a heartbreaking tale of love, looming descent, and masterfully crafted narrative spiraling out of control until the earth spins the reality of the narrator's world into a gravity that cannot be contained. Sean will be receiving $1000 and 25 contributor copies.

CutBank will also be publishing runner-up Sandra Doller's innovative memoir Memory of the Prose Machine and second runner-up Kristin Hatch's collection of poetry Through the Hour Glass.

Be on the look out for these chapbooks in the forthcoming months!
