I Am Montana: Student Reflections on Identity & Place

The fourth volume of writing from students of the Free Verse Project.

About the Project

I Am Montana: Student Reflections on Identity & Place is a collaborative endeavor between the Free Verse Writing Project and Young Poets, a poet-in-the-schools program from the Center for Creative Writing at Montana State University, Billings.

The anthology of student work is drawn from writing workshops held at the Billings Career Center, the Missoula County Juvenile Detention Center, the Billings Juvenile Detention Center, the Ted Lechner Youth Services Center in Billings, the Cascade County Juuvenile Detention Center, and the Pine Hills Youth Correctional Facility in Miles City. The I Am Montana Project seeks to elevate young voices and voices from historically marginalized communities.

“Through these young writers’ eyes, the state comes alive…”
