Submission Guidelines
CutBank is CLOSED for general submissions. We will re-open for submissions on October 1st, 2012. For more information on our annual contests, click here.
We accept poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction submissions October 1 through February 15. Please only submit online; paper submissions will be recycled. Submit unpublished, original work, and include a cover letter with a brief biography. Please submit no more than twice per reading period.
We’re always happy to accept simultaneous submissions but ask that you withdraw your work immediately via Submishmash if it is accepted elsewhere (poets may withdraw individual poems by emailing us at cutbank[at]umontana[dot]edu).
We encourage you to read CutBank before submitting. Sample issues are available for $8, one-year subscriptions for $15.
Visit our contest page for information about our annual print and online contests.
FICTION should be double-spaced and paginated with your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address on at least the first page. We are unable to read unsolicited submissions of more than 10,000 words.
NONFICTION should be double-spaced and paginated with your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address on at least the first page. We are unable to read unsolicited submissions of more than 10,000 words.
POEMS (up to five per submissions) should include your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address on the first page of each poem.
Every piece will be read first by an editor, and then by an enthusiastic, trained pool of readers. Reading your work is the most exciting part of our jobs, and we’re happy to say we form the majority of our content for CutBank from unsolicited submissions. We’re all writers here, and we appreciate the opportunity to read your work. Response time is typically 2 to 4 months. Keep writing and we’ll see you on the flip side!
